Seven Journalists Feared Dead, Four Injured in Gombe Road Crash
At least seven journalists have been killed and four others injured in a fatal road accident involving a bus belonging to the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) in Gombe State.
The tragic incident occurred on Monday evening as the journalists were returning from a wedding ceremony in the Gombe South Senatorial District. The victims were part of a delegation that had travelled to celebrate the wedding of a colleague who works with the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA).
Confirming the incident, the Gombe State Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Samson Kaura, disclosed that a total of 11 persons were involved in the crash. He said seven of the occupants died instantly, while four others sustained varying degrees of injuries and were taken for medical treatment.
According to Kaura, preliminary investigations by the FRSC indicate that the accident was a lone crash, with a suspected tyre burst identified as the likely cause.
The incident has thrown the journalism community in Gombe State and beyond into mourning, as colleagues and media organisations await further details on the identities of the victims and the condition of those injured.
