Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, has announced plans to train 3,100 youths across the State at the Dakkada Skills Acquisition Centre (DASAC) in the upcoming academic session, aiming to equip them with skills for sustainability and self-reliance.

Speaking while receiving youths during a rally in support of President Bola Tinubu and Senate President Godswill Akpabio in Uyo, Governor Eno reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to building a vibrant youth community.

“What you have done today inspires us to continue working for you and to create a future our youth will be proud of. We remain committed to human capital development for our young people,” he said.

Governor Eno explained that each local government area will send 50 youths to DASAC, with an additional 50 sponsored locally, bringing the total to 100 participants per area for the session.

In a major boost for students, he also announced a 150 per cent increase in bursaries, raising the monthly allocation from N20,000 to N50,000 starting January 2026. He encouraged youths to either continue their education or acquire a skill, assuring that the government would support both pathways.

The Governor highlighted the State’s ongoing youth development initiatives, including the construction of youth-friendly centres in all local government areas, equipped with solar power, internet access, and other essential facilities. He noted that the Ministry of Youth Development is working on a comprehensive youth policy to strengthen opportunities for young people, who have been actively involved in governance as commissioners, lawmakers, local government chairpersons, and aides.

Governor Eno also cited achievements in aviation training through Ibom Air, with 40 indigenes trained as pilots and engineers, and another 10 set for training in January 2026. He emphasized the importance of self-reliance, urging youths to rise above handouts and excel professionally and academically.

He expressed gratitude to President Tinubu for releasing funds to support state programs and assured that youth empowerment through skills acquisition would continue in 2026.

The Governor thanked the youths for their endorsement and support, extending appreciation on behalf of the State government, the President, and Senate President Akpabio.

Hon. Martins Esin, member representing Oron Federal Constituency, stressed that youths make up 60 per cent of the State’s population and pledged their continued support for the Governor in 2027. Dr. Ekerette Ekanem, Commissioner for Youth Development, and Dr. Uwemedimo Udo, ALGON Chairman, also commended the Governor’s efforts, assuring that the youth would remain united in supporting APC candidates in the 2027 elections.
