We responded to 838 Emergency Calls in 2025 – Kano fire service
The Kano State Fire Service has disclosed that it responded to a total of 838 emergency calls between January 1 and December 31, 2025, cutting across the 44 local government areas of the state.
The disclosure was made in a press statement dated January 1, 2026, signed by the Public Relations Officer of the Service, ACFO Saminu Yusif Abdullahi. According to the statement, the operations were carried out under the leadership of the Director of the Service, Alhaji Sani Anas, through 30 fire stations strategically located across Kano State.
The Service explained that the emergency calls cut across fire outbreaks, rescue operations, and false alarm reports received from different communities and sectors within the state.
Data released by the agency showed that out of the 838 calls handled in 2025, 665 were fire incidents, 130 were rescue operations, while 43 were false alarms. The report also revealed that 120 lives were lost during the period due to fire outbreaks, road traffic accidents, and incidents involving ponds and wells.
Despite the losses, the Fire Service confirmed that 91 lives were successfully saved through prompt emergency response efforts carried out by its personnel.
In terms of property damage, the Service estimated that assets worth approximately N6.47 billion were lost to fire and related incidents within the year under review. However, timely intervention by firefighters helped save properties valued at about N15.32 billion.
Further analysis of fire statistics indicated a noticeable increase in residential fire incidents, with 376 cases recorded across the state in 2025. In response, the Director, Alhaji Sani Anas, urged residents to observe proper fire safety measures and handle fire-related activities with greater responsibility to reduce the risk of disasters.
He also extended New Year greetings to Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, members of the State Executive Council, the Speaker and lawmakers of the Kano State House of Assembly, the Emir of Kano, Alhaji Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, district heads, Islamic scholars, and the people of Kano State, while praying for divine protection, peace, and safety for residents in the year 2026.
