Public primary and junior secondary schools across Sokoto State have resumed for the second term, following directives from the Sokoto State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), despite ongoing security challenges affecting both urban and rural communities.

SUBEB confirmed that the first-term holiday concluded on Sunday, January 4, with schools reopening the following day under its supervision. In a statement issued by Executive Chairman Alhaji Umar Nagwari Tambuwal, the Board assured parents and the public that all necessary measures had been taken to ensure a safe and orderly resumption.

Tambuwal appealed to parents, guardians, traditional and religious leaders, School-Based Management Committees (SBMCs), and Parents-Teachers Associations (PTAs) to actively support the return of pupils to school. He emphasized that cooperation from all stakeholders is critical to overcoming security-related anxieties.

Education secretaries and school support officers have been instructed to intensify monitoring and supervision to enforce compliance with the resumption schedule and maintain academic standards. Additionally, three specialized monitoring teams, each led by a permanent SUBEB board member, will oversee the three senatorial zones, evaluating school preparedness and student attendance.

The chairman also called on contractors handling classroom construction, fencing, borehole installations, and furniture supply to expedite project completion, in line with contractual obligations.

SUBEB reaffirmed its commitment to providing uninterrupted access to basic education and protecting the academic progress of children in Sokoto State, even amid security challenges.
