SDP Rules Out Merger, Vows to Resist Hostile Takeover
The National Secretary of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), Olu Agunloye, has dismissed any possibility of a merger with another political party, stressing that the SDP will not allow a hostile takeover by new members.
In a statement on Friday, Agunloye emphasized that while the party welcomes new members, they must strictly adhere to its constitution and values. His remarks come amid recent defections from the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the SDP.
Agunloye criticized past administrations for economic hardship, unemployment, and insecurity, stating that the SDP offers Nigerians a viable alternative. He urged party leaders and state chairmen to mobilize for sustainable development under the leadership of National Chairman Alhaji Shehu Gabam.
He assured that the SDP remains committed to its ideology and will carefully manage internal dynamics to avoid the challenges that led to the failure of past political alliances. The party plans to strengthen its membership registration, organizational structures, and governance framework to maintain stability.
