Police Suspend January 2 Tinted glass Enforcement Nationwide
The Nigeria Police Force has halted the planned nationwide enforcement of the Tinted Glass Permit policy, which was scheduled to take effect on January 2, 2026, following an interim order issued by a competent court.
The suspension comes weeks after the Police announced the resumption of enforcement as part of broader efforts to enhance public safety and internal security. However, in a statement released on January 1, 2026, the Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed that the Police had been served with an interim court order restraining the Force from implementing the policy pending the determination of a substantive suit.
According to the statement, the order was issued in Suit No. HOR/FHR/M/31/2025 and dated December 17, 2025. In compliance with constitutional provisions and respect for judicial authority, the Police disclosed that they have entered an appearance in the matter, filed preliminary objections, and formally applied for the vacation of the interim order.
The court has adjourned proceedings in the case to January 20, 2026. Until then, the enforcement of the Tinted Glass Permit policy has been placed on hold nationwide in strict adherence to the subsisting court directive.
Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, reiterated the Force’s commitment to the rule of law, stressing that the Police would continue to discharge their constitutional responsibility of protecting lives and property within the bounds of legality.
He added that the Force remains focused on deploying lawful, intelligence-led strategies to address security challenges across the country while awaiting the court’s final determination. The Police also assured the public that further updates and clear guidance would be provided as the legal process progresses, in the interest of public order and national security.
