PDP faction Backs Ude-Okoye, demands for Wike’s Expulsion
A faction within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), known as the Conference of Professionals (CP-PDP), has declared support for Sunday Ude-Okoye as the party’s National Secretary.
In a statement released on Sunday and signed by its Protem National Coordinator, Barr. Obinna Nwachukwu, the group said its decision was based on a review of the party’s internal affairs and the recent Supreme Court judgment.
The group welcomed the Supreme Court ruling, which reaffirmed the supremacy of political parties in managing their internal affairs, including selecting officials, determining membership, and nominating candidates—matters the court stated are beyond judicial intervention.
According to the CP-PDP, the ruling strengthens Nigeria’s democracy by upholding political parties’ rights to structure their operations according to their constitutions and guidelines.
“Against this backdrop, the Conference aligns with the PDP National Working Committee (NWC) in recognizing Rt. Hon. SKE Ude-Okoye as the legitimate National Secretary of the PDP, having emerged through internal democratic processes in line with the party’s constitution,” the statement read.
The group urged Ude-Okoye to work alongside other NWC members to stabilize the PDP by fostering discipline, unity, and reconciliation while strengthening the party’s structure nationwide.
Additionally, the CP-PDP called on the party’s leadership to immediately expel the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, from the PDP.
Meanwhile, the CP-PDP expressed outrage over what it described as the “manipulative and overbearing actions” of the APC-led National Assembly leadership in approving the unconstitutional suspension of a democratically elected governor and state legislature by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
The group condemned the move as a betrayal of public trust and called for the immediate resignation of the Senate President and the Speaker of the House of Representatives.
“The CP-PDP urges Nigerians to defend democracy by speaking out against these constitutional violations by the APC,” the statement concluded.
