Pastor Chris Okafor Summoned by Lagos Police over Sexual Misconduct Allegations
The Lagos State Police Command has officially summoned Pastor Chris Okafor, Senior Pastor of Mountain of Liberation and Miracles Ministries, to appear at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Panti, in connection with allegations of sexual offences, including rape, and other acts reportedly capable of disturbing public order.
Okafor has been served the summons through his legal representative and is required to report to the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of SCID by 10 a.m. on Monday.
In a statement on Sunday, Lagos Police Public Relations Officer Abimbola Adebisi confirmed that Commissioner of Police Olohundare Jimoh had ordered a thorough investigation into the allegations. The inquiry will cover capital offences and other serious crimes, and authorities are urging alleged victims and witnesses to come forward, assuring them of full confidentiality and protection.
“The Commissioner of Police assures the public that the identities of all victims and witnesses will be safeguarded. The investigation will be conducted professionally, transparently, and without bias, in full compliance with Nigerian law,” the statement added.
Pastor Okafor had previously issued a public apology to Nollywood actress Doris Ogala, one of the complainants, during a church service. While acknowledging certain past missteps, he denied several allegations but expressed willingness to make restitution to anyone who may have been wronged.
The matter gained widespread attention after Ogala’s arrest and subsequent release, stemming from a dispute over an alleged broken promise of marriage. Ogala, through her lawyers, is seeking N1 billion in damages, citing emotional distress, reputational harm, and financial loss.
Authorities emphasized that no individual, regardless of status, influence, or religious position, would be exempt from investigation, reiterating the police’s commitment to maintaining law, order, and justice.
