Osun APC Raises Alarm Over NULGE Resumption Conditions, Warns of Possible Crisis

The Osun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has cautioned that the conditions set by the leadership of the Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE) for resuming work were deliberately crafted to trigger unrest and destabilise the prevailing peace across the state.

The party issued the warning amid plans by the Osun NULGE, led by Dr. Nathaniel Ogungbangbe, to call off its nearly ten-month strike, but with what the APC described as stringent and provocative conditions. According to the party, the demands attached to the proposed resumption could fuel chaos, violence, and widespread disorder in local government areas if not checked.

In a statement signed by the APC Director of Media and Information in the state, Mogaji Kola Olabisi, the party placed security agencies on alert, urging them to closely monitor developments and take decisive action against anyone found attempting to breach public peace.

The APC accused the union leadership of overstepping its constitutional and administrative boundaries, arguing that it was not within NULGE’s mandate to determine which local government executives its members could work with. The party further questioned what authority empowered the union to selectively interpret and enforce court judgments.

Describing the resumption conditions as illegal and inconsistent with established civil service rules, the APC said the demands were unacceptable and amounted to an abuse of office by public servants.

The opposition party also appealed to parents and guardians to caution their children and wards against being used by what it termed disgruntled political actors seeking to exploit the situation for selfish ends.

The APC warned that Dr. Ogungbangbe and the leadership of Osun NULGE would be held accountable should there be any breakdown of law and order, alleging that the union’s leadership was adopting a partisan approach capable of introducing unidentified elements into local government councils under the guise of resumption of duties.
