Osun 2026: Accord Party Reaffirms Adeleke as Sole Governorship Candidate
The Chairman of the Accord Party in Osun State, Victor Akande, has reiterated that Governor Ademola Adeleke remains the party’s only recognised candidate for the August 8, 2026 governorship election.
Akande also dismissed suggestions that the All Progressives Congress (APC) and its candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, pose any serious challenge to Adeleke’s re-election bid.
Addressing journalists in Osogbo on Tuesday, the Accord Party leader described reports naming Clement Bamigbola as the party’s governorship candidate as baseless and misleading. He insisted that Adeleke is the sole, duly endorsed candidate of the party.
According to Akande, there is no internal division within the Accord Party over the governorship contest, stressing that the party remains united and fully committed to supporting Adeleke’s second-term ambition.
He described claims of a factional primary as fictitious, saying no such group exists within the party’s legally recognised structure. Akande noted that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has consistently engaged with the party’s duly authorised representatives in previous elections across different states and would do the same in Osun.
He further accused promoters of a supposed factional candidate of seeking relevance for personal gain, maintaining that Adeleke has no rival on the Accord Party’s platform.
On the prospects of the APC in the forthcoming election, Akande said Osun voters had already rejected the party in 2022 and would reaffirm that decision in August by returning Adeleke for another four-year term.
He criticised the APC’s previous administration in the state, alleging that its policies negatively affected workers’ welfare, and insisted that residents would not support a return to what he described as a failed era of governance.
