NYCN President Appeals for Support to Continue Leading the Youth Council

ABUJA – The President of the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), Amb. Sukubo Sara-Igbe Sukubo, has asked for a fresh mandate to continue leading the youth organization, emphasizing the importance of support from Northern Nigeria for his leadership success. He made this appeal during a meeting in Kano State on Thursday evening, organized by the NYCN Kano State Chapter in collaboration with the state government.

The event was attended by government officials, members of the NYCN Board of Trustees, Advisory Council, Management Committee, and youth leaders from the seven states in the North-West region.

Sukubo expressed his gratitude to the North for its ongoing support throughout his tenure, calling it a key factor in his leadership achievements. He emphasized that the goodwill from the North has given him the strength to rise to different leadership positions within the NYCN.

“I am here today to seek your support and a fresh mandate to continue serving you,” Sukubo told the delegates at the gathering. He acknowledged the crucial role the North had played in his administration’s success and assured them he would not take their support for granted.

One of the significant steps taken by Sukubo’s leadership was the revalidation of affiliated Voluntary Youth Organizations (VYOs), which had been avoided by previous leaders due to concerns about potential crises. Sukubo explained that the revalidation process was carried out to strengthen the NYCN’s legitimacy and ensure compliance with constitutional requirements. The initiative has successfully revalidated 18 VYOs in the North-East, 35 in the North-West, and 31 in the North-Central.

The Kano State Government, represented by the Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Mustapha Rabi’u Musa Kwankwaso, praised Sukubo for his commitment to youth empowerment. He highlighted the positive impact of his leadership on the youth population in the state, noting that the government is dedicated to partnering with the NYCN to further improve the lives of young people.

At the end of the meeting, stakeholders from the North-West region unanimously passed a vote of confidence in both Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf and Sukubo’s leadership of the NYCN. They also pledged to support him in the upcoming national elections, where delegates’ votes from the North-West will be cast in his favor during the national elective congress scheduled for September 19-22, 2025.
