At least nine people have been confirmed dead, while 10 others sustained injuries following a serious road accident along the Jama’are–Azare corridor in Bauchi State.

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) said the crash occurred on Friday and involved a commercial vehicle transporting 19 passengers. The vehicle, bearing registration number KTG 181 ZZ, was en route from Gombe State to Kano State when the incident happened.

Confirming the development, the Bauchi Sector Command’s Route Commander and Public Education Officer, Musa Kayo, stated that nine passengers died instantly, while the remaining victims suffered varying degrees of injuries.

Although investigations are ongoing to determine the precise cause of the crash, preliminary assessments point to excessive speed, driver fatigue, and loss of control as likely contributing factors.

FRSC rescue teams were promptly deployed to the scene, where they evacuated the injured to the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Azare, for urgent medical treatment. The bodies of the deceased were also deposited at the morgue of the same facility.

The FRSC expressed concern over the persistent loss of lives on Nigerian highways and reiterated its call on motorists to strictly observe traffic regulations, avoid speeding, and ensure adequate rest before undertaking long-distance journeys.
