Naira appreciate Against US Dollar after Christmas Holiday
The Nigerian naira recorded a notable appreciation against the US dollar in the parallel market on Monday, following the Christmas holiday period.
Abubakar Hassan, a Bureau De Change operator in Wuse Zone 4, told DAILY POST that the naira exchanged at N1,475 per dollar on Monday, up from N1,490 before the festive break, reflecting a gain of N15. He attributed the appreciation to a decline in foreign exchange demand.
Data from the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) also indicated a modest strengthening of the naira in the official market, rising to N1,442.51 per dollar on Monday from N1,443.38 on Wednesday, December 24, 2025. This represents a N0.87 gain at the official exchange rate.
The currency’s improvement coincides with an increase in the country’s external reserves, which grew by 7.28 per cent month-on-month, reinforcing stability in Nigeria’s foreign exchange market.
