Lagos APC Congratulates Peter Obi, Sends Cryptic on Defection
The Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has issued a statement congratulating Peter Obi on his defection to the African Democratic Congress (ADC), while framing the move as a long-anticipated outcome of persistent persuasion by the opposition party.
According to the party’s spokesperson, Seye Oladejo, Obi’s defection is less a natural political evolution and more a public affirmation of a coalition “forged in grievance, sustained by falsehood, and animated by an unhealthy appetite for national dislocation.”
Oladejo said:
“We congratulate the ADC that Mr. Peter Obi eventually yielded to their prolonged plea or is it their instruction to come on board. The pretense of independence has now been formally abandoned. The choice of venue for this declaration is also not lost on discerning, pan-Nigerian electorates who understand political coding and symbolism. Nothing about this exercise was accidental; everything was calculated.”
The APC added that the predictable nature of Obi’s political trajectory reflects a pattern of “convenience politics masquerading as principle,” noting that the ADC is “not a coalition of ideas; it is a cartel of convenience where rejected ambitions, electoral failures, and serial aspirants converge.”
Oladejo concluded that Obi’s defection confirms the opposition’s strategy prioritises power over responsibility, rather than national interest, describing it as a political arrangement designed to leverage influence without delivering substantive governance.
Talk Nigeria has highlighted the development as part of the growing realignment of opposition forces ahead of the 2027 general elections.
