Gov. Bala Appoints 142 District Heads
Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, has approved the appointment of 142 new district heads across 20 Emirate Councils and Chiefdoms in a move aimed at strengthening traditional administration and improving grassroots governance.
The Chairman of the Local Government Service Commission, Alhaji Abubakar Muhammad Wabi, disclosed this on Tuesday while briefing journalists in Bauchi. He said the appointments were made in line with Sections 16(1) and 16(14) of the Bauchi State Chieftaincy (Appointment and Deposition) Law, 2025, which provides the legal framework for the restructuring and recognition of traditional institutions in the state.
According to Wabi, the appointments represent the first phase of the exercise, with a second phase to be carried out later. He explained that the selection process followed recommendations from royal fathers and extensive consultations to ensure fairness, justice, and inclusiveness.
He added that Governor Mohammed has directed all royal fathers to immediately commence turbaning ceremonies for the newly appointed district heads.
Wabi noted that the implementation of the chieftaincy law led to the creation of 20 Emirate Councils and Chiefdoms, making the appointment of qualified district heads necessary for effective administration at the local level.
He said the appointments are expected to strengthen collaboration between traditional rulers and government authorities, particularly in the delivery of governance at the grassroots.
The commission chairman commended Governor Mohammed for his leadership and commitment to reforms in the traditional institution and praised other stakeholders for their cooperation in ensuring the successful implementation of the law.
He urged the new district heads to uphold fairness, accountability, and selfless service, assuring them of the state government’s commitment to peace, unity, and sustainable development through responsive and credible traditional institutions.
