Fire Guts Electronics Shops in Ikotun,Goods worth millions destroyed
Fire broke out early on New Year’s Day in Ikotun, Lagos State, destroying four electronics shops located in a building beside the GUO Transport Company terminal.
The inferno reportedly consumed all items in the affected shops, including washing machines, television sets and power generators. The cause of the fire could not be immediately confirmed, although a faulty electrical circuit was suspected.
A resident of the area told Talk Nigeria that neighbours swiftly mobilised to contain the blaze, using large volumes of water to prevent it from spreading to other sections of the building before the arrival of officials of the Lagos State Fire Service.
He commended the firefighters for their timely intervention, noting that their efforts prevented the fire from engulfing the entire structure and nearby properties.
According to him, without the prompt response of emergency responders, the incident could have resulted in far more extensive damage.
No casualties were recorded, while the affected area was cordoned off to ensure safety.
The incident adds to a series of recent fire outbreaks in Lagos, including fires that gutted the Great Nigeria Insurance building on Lagos Island and the Army Arena Market in Oshodi within the past eight days.
