Former Enugu East Senator and ex-chairman of the Senate Committee on Communications, Gilbert Nnaji, has formally resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) after 27 years of membership.

In a letter dated December 26, addressed to the PDP chairman in Umuenwene Ward, Iji Nike, Enugu East Local Government Area, Nnaji described the decision as difficult, acknowledging the party’s historical role in Nigeria’s national development. He recalled that the PDP was founded on core democratic principles, including unity, patriotism, justice, transparency, selflessness, mutual respect, and resilience.

Nnaji noted that he had faithfully dedicated himself to the party over the years, making significant contributions to what he once described as “the largest party in Africa.” However, he stated that recent developments have rendered the party “as irredeemable as it is irreparable,” calling the situation unfortunate.

After extensive consultations with family, associates, and prominent citizens, Nnaji said he resolved to seek a platform better suited to continue contributing to national development. He has now joined the African Democratic Congress (ADC), which he described as “a promising ground with like-minded compatriots motivated to redirect the course of our Nigerian state.”

Nnaji expressed gratitude to the leadership of his former party for their understanding and wished the PDP well in its future endeavors.
