Enugu APC Chieftain Ada Ogbu Resigns, signals Political Realignments
Princess Adaku Ogbu Aguocha, popularly known as Ada Ogbu, a prominent Enugu politician and former All Progressives Congress (APC) senatorial candidate, has formally resigned from the party after 14 years of membership.
Her resignation, dated December 30, 2025, was addressed to the APC Caretaker Ward Chairman of Nara Ward I, Nkanu East Local Government Area.
Ada Ogbu’s decision has sparked political speculation, coinciding with a growing wave of high-profile defections linked to Peter Obi’s movement into the African Democratic Congress (ADC). In her letter, she cited “evolving realities” and a careful reassessment of how best to serve her constituents as reasons for leaving the APC, describing the move as difficult but deliberate after extensive consultations with family, friends, and political associates.
A longstanding figure in Enugu politics, Ada Ogbu joined the APC in its formative years and became a visible party advocate in the South-East, serving as a grassroots mobilizer, organiser, and party ideologue. She was also a senatorial candidate for Enugu East Senatorial District, making her one of the state’s most recognisable APC leaders.
In her resignation letter, Ada Ogbu expressed gratitude for the opportunities and leadership experiences gained during her time in the party, emphasizing that her departure should not be interpreted as animosity toward former colleagues.
Her exit coincides with Peter Obi’s scheduled public pick-up of his ADC membership card in Enugu State, a move widely seen as consolidating opposition forces ahead of the 2027 general elections. While Ada Ogbu has not publicly disclosed her next political affiliation, analysts suggest her timing positions her as a likely participant in the emerging ADC-led opposition bloc.
Enugu State, often seen as a key opposition stronghold, is expected to play a symbolic role in Obi’s ADC entry. Ada Ogbu’s departure adds momentum to the political recalibration in the South-East and marks one of the most significant political developments in the state as 2025 draws to a close.
