Court Nullifies NNPP NWC’s Dissolution of Kano Party Excos
A High Court sitting in Kano has overturned the decision of the National Working Committee (NWC) of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) to dissolve the party’s executive structures at the state, local government and ward levels in Kano State.
The ruling was made public on Tuesday through a brief statement shared on the Facebook page of the Kano State Governor’s spokesperson, Sanusi Bature Dawakin Tofa.
According to the disclosure, the court held that the dissolution of the NNPP structures in Kano amounted to contempt of court. It consequently directed all parties involved to maintain the existing arrangement pending the determination of the substantive matter. The ruling, in effect, reinstates and affirms the Abiya-led executive committee as the legitimate party leadership in the state.
Announcing the development, Dawakin Tofa wrote that the court had reversed the NWC’s decision and ordered the preservation of the status quo, describing the action taken by the party’s national leadership as a violation of a subsisting court order.
The judgment comes barely a week after the NNPP National Working Committee announced the dissolution of all party executives across Kano State. That decision was reached during an emergency meeting of the party’s national leadership held in Abuja.
As of the time of filing this report, the full details of the court ruling had not yet been released to the public.
