Bauchi Declares Work-Free Day to Honour Late Islamic Scholar Usman Bauchi
Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed has declared Friday, November 28, 2025, a work-free day in honour of the late Islamic scholar Sheikh Dahiru Usman Bauchi.
The revered cleric, aged 102, passed away on Wednesday night at the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital in Bauchi. His remains have been taken to the family residence along Gombe Road, where funeral prayers will be held.
The state government said the work-free day will enable civil servants, students, followers, and members of the public to take part in the funeral prayers and pay their final respects in line with Islamic rites.
In a statement, the governor’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mukhtar Gidado, described the decision as a tribute to a scholar whose influence in Qur’anic education, spiritual mentorship, and the promotion of peace extended across Nigeria and beyond.
The government urged residents to pray for the repose of Sheikh Bauchi’s soul and offer support to his family, students, and followers as they mourn his passing.
