Benue Civil Protection Guard Commander’s Son Killed in Makurdi Attack
The Benue State Civil Protection Guard has been plunged into mourning following the killing of Yusuf Isa, the eldest son of the Ankpa/Wadata Ward Commander, Obeka Isa, in Makurdi, the state capital.
Yusuf was reportedly attacked and killed by more than 10 unidentified armed men on New Year’s Day in the Wadata area of the town. An eyewitness said the incident occurred behind the Police Barracks as the victim was on his way from his family residence to his private home.
Speaking in an emotional tone, the bereaved father described the killing as devastating, noting that the family had not yet recovered from the death of Yusuf’s mother, who passed away only a few months earlier. He said the tragedy struck at a time when many residents were celebrating the New Year, leaving his family in deep grief.
Obeka Isa appealed to the Benue State Government and security agencies to carry out a thorough investigation and ensure that those responsible for the killing are brought to justice. He described the pain of losing his son so soon after burying his wife as unbearable and unforgettable.
The incident has further raised concerns about worsening insecurity in Makurdi, with residents calling for urgent measures to address violent crimes in the state. Attempts to reach the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Udeme Edet, for official comments were unsuccessful as of the time of filing this report.
