The Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi (Ojaja II), has been formally installed as the Chancellor of Kashim Ibrahim University (KIU), Maiduguri, Borno State, during the institution’s convocation ceremony for the award of first degrees to graduating students.

Speaking at the ceremony on Saturday, the monarch accepted the appointment and pledged to discharge his duties with commitment and diligence.

“Distinguished ladies and gentlemen, members of the Senate, I accept this responsibility and will carry out my functions as Chancellor to the best of my ability,” he said.

Describing the occasion as deeply significant, Oba Ogunwusi said the installation marked a personal milestone and an honour he would always cherish. He expressed pride in joining the university community and reaffirmed his commitment to supporting education and the development of young Nigerians.

“This is a day I will always remember. I am committed to supporting education and helping to nurture these young minds for the future,” the Ooni stated.

He also commended individuals and organisations contributing to educational development in the country, singling out businessman Muhammadu Indimi for praise. According to him, such sustained support reflects dedication and vision worthy of recognition.

The monarch expressed gratitude to Borno State Governor, Professor Babagana Zulum, and the university’s founder for the confidence reposed in him, assuring them of his determination to add value to the institution and justify the trust placed in his office.

Governor Zulum, who conducted the installation, described the event as a historic moment for the university. He formally presented the symbols of office to the Ooni and welcomed him into the KIU community, noting that the appointment would strengthen collaboration and advance educational growth in the state.

During the convocation, the Ooni of Ife constituted the gathering formally and charged the graduating students to uphold integrity, hard work, and service to society as they transition into their professional lives.

The ceremony was attended by several prominent dignitaries, including Vice President Kashim Shettima, Yobe State Governor Mai Mala Buni, Gombe State Governor Inuwa Yahaya, and the Shehu of Borno, HRH Abubakar Ibn Garba El-Kanemi, alongside traditional rulers, senior government officials, and university administrators.
