Troops from the 3 Division of the Nigerian Army, operating under the Joint Task Force (JTF) Operation Enduring Peace, successfully foiled a planned attack on communities in Plateau State, neutralising five suspected bandits and recovering weapons and ammunition.

The operation, conducted in the early hours of January 1, formed part of Operation Peace Shield, aimed at denying criminal elements freedom of movement in the Joint Operations Area (JOA).

According to Capt. Joshua Atu John, Acting Media Information Officer of JTF Operation Enduring Peace, troops acted on credible intelligence and set up an ambush along the Dutsen Zaki–Odare Forest axis in Wase Local Government Area, where the bandits were reportedly mobilising to attack nearby communities.

During the encounter, the soldiers engaged the attackers, neutralising five bandits while others fled. Recovered items included two AK-47 rifle magazines with 11 rounds of 7.62mm Special ammunition, two machetes, and one knife. Follow-up operations are ongoing to track the remaining suspects.

Maj. Gen. EF Oyinlola, General Officer Commanding 3 Division and Commander of JTF Operation Enduring Peace, assured residents of Plateau and other areas under the division’s jurisdiction of the military’s continued commitment to protecting lives and property.

He urged the public to provide timely and credible information to security agencies, stressing that such cooperation is critical for sustaining peace and stability.

The military also warned criminals operating within the Joint Operations Area to cease all illegal activities, noting that troops remain alert and ready to respond to any security threats in Plateau State.
