The Oyo State Police Command has apprehended several individuals suspected of attacking officials of the State Fire Service in Saki Local Government Area.

Dr. Akinwande Moroof, Special Adviser to the Governor on Fire Reforms, confirmed the incident on Saturday, explaining that the fire service personnel were assaulted while responding to a blaze at Biseri Filling Station, Orogun, Isale Adinni, Saki.

According to Moroof, a distress call was received at 19:45 on Thursday from a caller named Alhaji Aiki reporting the fire. By 19:46, fire tender OY 173 A09 and personnel under the supervision of CFS Ayegbokiki departed for the scene.

En route, the firefighters were confronted by an angry mob armed with dangerous weapons. During the attack, several firefighters were injured, and the fire tender was heavily vandalized, including a smashed windshield and extensive damage to the vehicle’s body from cutlasses and stones. The crew managed to escape and reported the assault to the Divisional Police Headquarters in Saki.

Moroof added that the fire tender is currently secured at the police station to prevent further attacks. He said the police are actively investigating the case and have already arrested some suspects linked to the assault.

He called on the public to cooperate with fire service personnel while performing their duties and warned that anyone who attacks or obstructs firefighters would face strict legal consequences.
