INEC Begins Recall Process for Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has confirmed that petitioners seeking the recall of Kogi Central Senator, Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, have updated their records as required by law.
INEC stated that the petitioners have provided their telephone numbers and email addresses, fulfilling a crucial requirement. As a result, the commission has resumed the recall process.
In a statement signed by INEC’s National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee, Sam Olumekun, the commission disclosed that the next step involves scrutinizing the list of signatories submitted by the petitioners to verify that the petition was endorsed by more than half of the registered voters in her constituency.
Olumekun assured Nigerians that the process would be conducted transparently.
This development follows INEC’s earlier rejection of the petition due to missing contact information. However, in a letter dated March 26 and signed by INEC Secretary, Mrs. Rose Oriaran Anthony, the commission officially notified Senator Natasha and copied Senate President Godswill Akpabio, confirming the commencement of recall proceedings.
INEC emphasized that the process aligns with Section 69 of the Nigerian Constitution.
