Trump Takes Stand on National Signal Group Chat Leak
United States President Donald Trump has reaffirmed his confidence in his national security team following the release of additional text messages from a Signal group chat discussing the Yemen strike.
White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt disclosed this on Wednesday, stating that Trump remains steadfast in his support for his advisers despite the controversy.
“What I can say definitively is what I just spoke to the president about, and he continues to have confidence in his national security team,” Leavitt told reporters at the White House.
Her remarks came in response to questions about whether anyone would be dismissed over the leak. When pressed on whether Trump felt misled by his advisers regarding the classified nature of the conversation, she reiterated, “The president feels the same today as he did yesterday.”
This development follows National Security Adviser Mike Waltz’s admission of responsibility for the breach. Waltz, speaking on Fox News’ The Ingraham Angle on Tuesday, acknowledged that he had mistakenly invited a reporter into a Signal group chat of Trump administration officials discussing plans for a military strike on the Houthis in Yemen.
Describing the situation as “embarrassing,” Waltz took full responsibility for the mishap, but Trump’s continued support for his team suggests no immediate changes are expected within his administration.
