Gen Tchiani Sworn in as Niger’s Transitional Leader for Five Years
General Abdourahamane Tchiani has been officially sworn in as Niger’s transitional leader for a five-year term. The inauguration ceremony took place in Niamey on Wednesday, with key political figures, including former President Mahamadou Issoufou, in attendance.
Alongside his swearing-in, Tchiani was also promoted to a five-star general, a move seen as strengthening his grip on power. The development has drawn mixed reactions, with some supporting it while others argue that it goes against previous agreements on the country’s transition.
Many Nigeriens are now watching closely to see how the transitional government will handle national affairs and whether a clear plan for a return to civilian rule will be established.
