The Ogun State Government has confirmed that two foreign nationals lost their lives in a road accident involving world heavyweight boxing champion Anthony Joshua. The victims’ remains have been deposited at the Livewell Mortuary in Sagamu.

The tragic collision occurred on Monday along the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway, near the Makun axis, claiming the lives of the two male foreign nationals who reportedly died instantly.

In a statement, Kayode Akinmade, Special Adviser to the Governor on Information and Strategy, expressed the state government’s condolences to the families of the deceased. He noted that Anthony Joshua narrowly escaped the crash, which involved an SUV traveling from Lagos to Sagamu.

“Preliminary reports indicate that two male foreign nationals died instantly at the scene. Their remains have since been deposited at the Livewell Morgue in Sagamu,” the statement read. Joshua and the vehicle’s driver were promptly rescued by security personnel attached to his convoy and are currently receiving medical attention.

According to the statement, the accident occurred when the SUV conveying Joshua rammed into a stationary truck along the expressway. The badly damaged vehicle has been moved to the Sagamu Motor Traffic Division office, and arrangements are underway to tow the truck to facilitate a thorough investigation.

Describing the incident as deeply tragic, the Ogun State Government urged motorists to exercise caution, particularly during the festive season when traffic volumes increase. Authorities also called on road safety and security agencies to intensify monitoring across the state.

The government concluded by praying for the repose of the deceased and a speedy recovery for those injured, while asking for strength for the bereaved families to bear their loss.
