Heritage Bank customers seeks National Assembly Intervention over unpaid deposits

Depositors of Heritage Bank with funds exceeding N5 million have called on the National Assembly to intervene in the resolution of the bank’s license revocation by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).
They expressed frustration over the loss of access to their funds, citing severe financial distress affecting their businesses and livelihoods. Despite previous reassurances from the CBN about the bank’s stability, the revocation has led to widespread hardship, with some depositors reportedly facing critical health conditions or even death.
In a statement, the affected depositors questioned why Heritage Bank depositors were not given the same consideration as those from Unity Bank and Providus Bank, where a smooth transition was ensured. They also pointed out that First Bank received N460 billion from Heritage Bank before its liquidation.
The depositors urged the National Assembly to:
- Direct the CBN to pay all depositors in full without delay.
- Ensure a seamless transition by merging depositors with other banks, as was done in previous cases.
- Utilize Heritage Bank’s reserve ratio to settle depositor claims.
- Verify and ensure the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation (NDIC) pays the insured sum to all eligible depositors.
They emphasized the need for equal treatment and a swift resolution to prevent further economic and personal losses.
