Trump Breaks Silence, Defends National Security Adviser Amid US War Plans Leak
US President Donald Trump has spoken out in defense of National Security Adviser Mike Waltz following the controversy surrounding leaked discussions about military operations in Yemen. Trump described Waltz as a “good man” who had “learned a lesson,” dismissing calls for his resignation after the leak sparked outrage within the administration.
The controversy erupted when Waltz reportedly included Atlantic magazine’s editor-in-chief, Jeffrey Goldberg, in a Signal app group chat where high-level discussions about plans to bomb the Houthis in Yemen were taking place. The chat, titled ‘Houthi PC small group,’ involved key figures such as Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth and Vice President JD Vance.
Responding to the backlash, Trump shifted the blame to staff members, stating that the inclusion of Goldberg was an unintentional mistake made by one of Waltz’s aides. He downplayed the incident, insisting that Waltz remained a valuable part of his administration despite internal frustrations, with one White House official reportedly calling the NSA a “f***ing idiot.”
The leak has intensified scrutiny on the Trump administration’s handling of national security communications, raising concerns about operational secrecy at the highest levels of government.
