The Kano State chapter of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) has intensified its internal leadership crisis with the appointment of Abdullahi Zubairu Abiya as Acting State Chairman, following the removal of former chairman Hashimu Dungurawa.

The decision, endorsed by the NNPP State Executive Committee during an emergency meeting at the party’s secretariat in Kano, comes after Dungurawa’s sack at the ward level was upheld. Barrister Yusuf Mukhtar, the party’s Assistant Legal Adviser, confirmed that Abiya’s appointment aligns with the NNPP constitution.

According to party sources, the move followed a formal resolution submitted by the Dawakin Tofa Local Government Executive Committee, which recommended the removal and expulsion of Dungurawa. The resolution originated from the Gargari Ward Executive Committee, which had accused Dungurawa of anti-party activities during its second executive meeting held two weeks after the general election.

After reviewing the report, the State Executive Committee approved Abiya’s emergence as Acting State Chairman. Party officials stated that the appointment aims to restore internal discipline, strengthen cohesion, and reposition the NNPP for future political engagements in Kano State.

Responding to his appointment, Hon. Abdullahi Zubairu Imam Abiya pledged to ensure justice for all party members while remaining loyal to the NNPP national leader, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, and Kano State Governor, Engr. Abba Kabir Yusuf.
