Chief Wole Oke, a former Minority Leader in the Kwara State House of Assembly during the Second Republic, has passed away at the age of 78. Oke, who held the traditional title of Jagunmolu of Shao, reportedly died on Sunday.

A close associate and former lawmaker, Hon. AbdulMumini Katibi, confirmed his death. “Yes, Chief Wole Oke died in the early hours of Sunday. Many people have gathered at his residence in the Fate area of Ilorin to sign the condolence register,” he said.

Until his passing, Oke was a respected leader of the Elders’ Council of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kwara State and was known for his dedication to community development.

Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq expressed deep sadness over Oke’s death, describing him as a prominent progressive politician and a statesman.

“He was a great leader who pursued his causes with intelligence and strong conviction. He was a courageous yet calm man who spoke truth to power and was always clear on his stance,” AbdulRazaq said in a condolence message signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Rafiu Ajakaye.

The governor extended his sympathies to the Ohoro of Shao, Oke’s family, the APC in Moro Local Government, and the entire Kwara political community. He prayed for strength for those mourning the late statesman.

The Chairman of Kwara APC, Prince Sunday Fagbemi, described Oke as a pillar of wisdom and progress, saying his loss leaves a significant void in the party.

“Chief Wole Oke was an embodiment of honesty and a guiding figure in the APC Elders’ Council. His wisdom and leadership were crucial during critical moments,” Fagbemi added.

Former Chairman of the Board of Directors of Kwara State Television Service (KWTV), Alhaji Hameed Adio, called Oke’s passing a great loss.

“This is the transition of a quintessential statesman, a great community leader, and a tireless advocate for his people,” he said.

Chief Wole Oke will be remembered for his contributions to Kwara politics and his commitment to public service.
