The Kano State Censorship Board has ordered the immediate closure of all entertainment outlets across the state, including event centres, commonly known as gala houses, and disc jockey (DJ) services.

The directive was announced on Tuesday by the board’s Public Relations Officer, Abdullahi Sani Sulaiman, who stated that enforcement would begin at 10:00 p.m. on Wednesday, February 18, 2026.

According to the board, the decision is aimed at enabling residents to observe the Ramadan fast in an atmosphere conducive to worship and reflection, free from distractions.

The suspension will remain in place for the duration of the fasting period, while specific dates for reopening, particularly ahead of Eid celebrations, will be communicated in due course.

The board called on operators and stakeholders in the entertainment sector to comply strictly with the directive, stressing that the move aligns with its statutory responsibility to regulate entertainment activities within the state.

It also offered prayers for a peaceful and spiritually fulfilling Ramadan, expressing hope that the holy month would bring mercy and prosperity to the people of Kano.
