Governor Caleb Mutfwang of Plateau State has emphasized that the creative economy is a dynamic, evolving sector thriving at the nexus of commerce, culture, tourism, and innovation.

He noted that the sector contributes substantially to Nigeria’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) while fostering social cohesion and national identity.

The governor made the remarks during the inauguration of the Senior Executive Course (SEC) 48 at the National Institute of Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS) in Kuru, near Jos. Represented by his deputy, Ngo Josephine Piyo, Mutfwang described the focus on the Orange Economy as timely and strategic, asserting that the creative economy is now central to national development rather than peripheral.

He outlined that the sector spans culture, arts, media, fashion, film, music, tourism, design, and digital innovation—industries driven by human creativity, talent, and enterprise. “For a country as diverse and culturally rich as Nigeria, the opportunities within the creative economy are immense, provided there are the right policies, investments, and institutional support,” Mutfwang said.

The governor highlighted the sector’s potential to generate employment, empower youth and women, access global markets, and drive sustainable growth beyond traditional resource dependency. He affirmed Plateau State’s commitment to fostering an enabling environment for entrepreneurship, policy innovation, and economic expansion.

“We believe governance should create conditions where ideas flourish, businesses grow, and talent is transformed into value. Our collaboration with NIPSS aligns with our commitment to evidence-based policymaking, rigorous research, and informed executive decision-making,” Mutfwang added. He expressed confidence that insights and recommendations from the course would advance creative industry development across Plateau State and Nigeria.

Director General of NIPSS, Prof Ayo Omotayo, encouraged participants to challenge assumptions, examine complex national and global issues, and produce practical, evidence-based policy solutions. He stressed that the course’s value lies in its national impact, urging participants to engage with humility, curiosity, and purpose.

“Question established orthodoxies, including your own, and leverage the diversity of experiences in your course. Remember, the ultimate value of your engagement at NIPSS is its contribution to national development and improving the lives of Nigerians,” Prof Omotayo stated.
