Gunmen Shoot Man, Snatch Motorcycle in Makurdi
A young man identified as Geo Freeman is currently receiving medical treatment after suspected armed robbers allegedly shot him and made away with his motorcycle and mobile phone in Makurdi, the Benue State capital.
The incident was made public by the victim’s elder brother, Awar SteevoooFresh, in a post shared on his verified Facebook page. In the emotional message, he stated that his younger sibling was attacked by gunmen who dispossessed him of his motorcycle and handset during the assault.
According to the account, the attack occurred within the Makurdi metropolis. The victim was subsequently rushed to a hospital in the state, where he is said to be responding to treatment.
Describing his brother as a diligent and industrious young man striving to make an honest living, Awar decried what he characterised as escalating insecurity in the state. He also lamented the growing incidents of motorcycle theft and violent robberies allegedly targeting unsuspecting residents.
The attack has renewed concerns over armed robbery and motorcycle snatching in Makurdi and other parts of Benue State. Such incidents, frequently involving firearms, have reportedly left victims injured and heightened anxiety among commercial motorcyclists and young entrepreneurs who rely on motorcycles for their livelihood.
Calls have intensified for strengthened security measures and prompt action against criminal elements, with residents insisting that citizens should not be subjected to violence while engaging in legitimate economic activities.
As of the time of filing this report, the spokesperson of the Benue State Police Command, DSP Udeme Edet, could not be reached for confirmation of the incident.
