Fourteen Feared Dead in Kebbi Boat Mishap
At least 14 people, mostly women, have lost their lives following a tragic boat mishap in Yauri Local Government Area of Kebbi State.
The incident reportedly occurred over the weekend shortly after a wedding ceremony. The victims were said to be returning after escorting a bride to her husband’s residence in Gwarzo village, Ngaski Local Government Area, when the boat conveying them capsized mid-journey at Gumbi village in Yauri LGA.
Sources indicated that more than 100 passengers were onboard at the time of the accident. Fourteen fatalities were confirmed, including 13 women and a child.
Governor Nasir Idris described the incident as a painful tragedy that has plunged the state into mourning. He extended condolences to the bereaved families, the Yauri Emirate and residents of the affected communities.
Represented at the funeral prayers by the Chairman of Yauri Local Government, Abubakar Shuaibu, the governor urged the families to remain steadfast and accept the incident as an act of God.
He appealed to the grieving families to bear the loss with faith, stressing that nothing happens without divine knowledge and will.
