Yobe State Governor, Hon. (Dr.) Mai Mala Buni, has approved automatic employment for Surayya Muhammad Kabir, a First Class graduate of Physics from Yobe State University (YSU), as part of his administration’s commitment to rewarding academic excellence and enhancing human capital development.
In a statement issued by the Director General of Press Affairs and Media to the Governor, Mamman Mohammed, Surayya was presented with her appointment letter by the governor at the Government House in Damaturu.
Governor Buni congratulated the graduate on her outstanding academic achievement, describing her as a role model for students across the state. He noted that her success underscores the importance of dedication, discipline, and perseverance in education.
The governor reaffirmed his administration’s resolve to promote policies and initiatives that support learning and talent development, with particular emphasis on encouraging girls’ education. He stressed that education remains the most sustainable investment for societal progress.
“You are a worthy ambassador of girl-child education in Yobe State. Your achievement should inspire others,” Buni said.
He explained that offering opportunities to exceptional graduates is a deliberate strategy to foster a culture of excellence and demonstrate that hard work and academic success are recognised and rewarded by the government.
Governor Buni further assured that the state government would continue to strengthen education at all levels through improved learning facilities, teacher support, and programmes aimed at boosting enrolment and retention of children in schools. He also reiterated his commitment to inclusive education policies that ensure equal opportunities for all children, regardless of their financial background.
“We will continue to ensure that no child in Yobe State is denied access to education because of economic challenges,” he said.
The governor urged Surayya to remain focused and disciplined in her new role and to use her achievement to motivate other young people to embrace education, hard work, and integrity.
In her response, Surayya expressed gratitude for the appointment, noting that the gesture had reinforced her belief in the value of diligence, commitment, and academic excellence.
Buni Receives Two Ambulances Donated by Chevron
Governor Mai Mala Buni has also received two ambulances donated by Chevron Nigeria Limited, describing the donation as a major boost to the state’s healthcare delivery and emergency response capacity.
The ambulances were received on behalf of the state government by the Commissioner for Health, Dr. Mohammed Lawan Gana, and later presented to the governor in Damaturu.
Commending Chevron for the donation, Governor Buni said the gesture reflected a strong partnership that aligns with the government’s agenda of expanding access to quality healthcare services. He emphasised that effective healthcare delivery requires collaboration among stakeholders, noting that corporate support plays a vital role in saving lives and improving service efficiency.
He directed that the ambulances be properly utilised and well maintained to ensure long-term service delivery.
“This intervention will further strengthen our healthcare system, particularly in emergency response. The hospital management must ensure these ambulances are effectively used and properly maintained,” the governor said.
Presenting the keys, Dr. Gana described the donation as timely, stating that it would enhance referral services and improve access to emergency healthcare, especially for women and children.
He disclosed that the ambulances would be deployed to the Maternal and Child Referral Centre at the Yobe State University Teaching Hospital to support rapid response and the transportation of patients requiring urgent medical attention.
The commissioner reaffirmed the ministry’s commitment to implementing Governor Buni’s healthcare reform agenda through infrastructure development, provision of medical equipment, and strengthened referral systems across health facilities in the state.
