NAF Destroys Terrorist Hideouts in Borno
The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has confirmed that its aircraft, operating under the Joint Task Force of Operation HADIN KAI, destroyed terrorist structures in Abbaga Jiri, located within the Timbuktu Triangle of Borno State, on January 8, 2026.
According to a statement by the NAF spokesperson, Air Commodore Ehimen Ejodame, the air strikes followed actionable multi-source intelligence that confirmed the presence of active terrorist elements, their structures, and concealed logistics facilities in the area. Based on this intelligence, the Air Component deployed air assets for coordinated surveillance and precision strike missions against identified targets.
Ejodame explained that the operation was carefully planned to degrade terrorist capabilities, deny them safe havens, and shape the operational environment for advancing ground troops, while strictly adhering to the rules of engagement and ensuring the protection of non-combatants.
He noted that the identified terrorist structures were successfully engaged and destroyed, significantly restricting the group’s freedom of movement. A follow-up strike also neutralised armed fighters who were seen converging on the location after the initial attack.
Subsequent advances by ground forces into the area, he said, confirmed the effectiveness of the air strikes and validated the success of the coordinated air and land operation.
Commenting on the mission, the Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Sunday Aneke, said the outcome reflected the Nigerian Air Force’s determination to maintain air superiority in support of joint military operations.
He added that the operation underscored the NAF’s commitment to delivering precise and decisive airpower to support ground forces, stressing that terrorist groups would continue to be denied freedom of movement, safe havens and logistical support wherever they attempt to operate.
Reaffirming the Air Force’s operational posture, Air Marshal Aneke emphasised that NAF missions would remain relentless and intelligence-driven to ensure maximum impact on hostile elements while safeguarding civilians.
The operation, he said, further demonstrated the NAF’s aggressive posture, precision use of airpower and critical role in enabling ground troops to sustain momentum and deliver decisive blows against terrorist networks threatening lives, property and Nigeria’s national security.
