Dr Olugbemisola Odusote Appointed First Female Director-General of Nigerian Law School

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the appointment of Dr. Olugbemisola Titilayo Odusote as the Director-General of the Nigerian Law School, making history as the first woman to lead the institution since it was established in 1962.

The appointment, which takes effect from January 10, 2026, is for a four-year tenure. Dr. Odusote will take over from Professor Isa Hayatu Chiroma, whose eight-year term ends on January 9, 2026.

Until her new appointment, Dr. Odusote served as the Deputy Director-General and Head of the Lagos Campus of the Nigerian Law School.

A respected legal scholar, she earned her Bachelor of Laws degree from Obafemi Awolowo University and was called to the Nigerian Bar in 1988. She later obtained a Master of Laws degree from the same institution, specialising in Company and Commercial Law. She went on to earn a PhD in Law from the University of Surrey in the United Kingdom, with a research focus on Public Law and the administration of justice.

Dr. Odusote joined the Nigerian Law School in 2001 as a lecturer and has since held several senior academic and administrative positions, including Head of Academic Department, Director of Academics, and Head of Campus. She has also served as a visiting scholar at Nottingham Trent University in the UK.

She has published extensively in reputable local and international law journals and has presented research papers at numerous legal education conferences. In addition, she has served on committees of the Council of Legal Education and the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA).

As Director-General, Dr. Odusote will be responsible for providing academic leadership, overseeing administrative operations, and setting the strategic direction of the Nigerian Law School across its campuses. She will also serve as the institution’s key link with the Council of Legal Education, the Body of Benchers, and the Nigerian Bar Association.
