Troops of the 3rd Division of the Nigerian Army, operating under the Joint Task Force Operation Enduring Peace (JTF OPEP), successfully intercepted a planned bandit assault in Plateau State, neutralising five armed suspects in a precision operation.

The operation, conducted early Thursday under the ongoing Operation Peace Shield, targeted suspected bandits mobilising to attack communities within Wase Local Government Area. Military sources told Talk Nigeria News that intelligence had indicated imminent threats along the Dutsen Zaki–Odare Forest corridor, prompting troops to set an ambush.

“The troops engaged the criminals in heavy gunfire. Five bandits were neutralised, while others fled, likely sustaining gunshot wounds,” the source said.

Recovered from the scene were two AK-47 magazines loaded with 11 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, alongside two machetes and a knife. The military confirmed that operations are ongoing to track and apprehend the fleeing suspects and prevent further threats to residents.

The Nigerian Army reaffirmed its commitment to sustained offensive actions under Operation Enduring Peace, aimed at securing Plateau State and surrounding areas, and ensuring long-term stability for local communities.
