BREAKING: Peter Obi Officially Joins African Democratic Congress(ADC)
Former Labour Party presidential candidate in the 2023 general election, Peter Obi, has formally defected to the African Democratic Congress (ADC), a party backed by an emerging opposition coalition.
Obi announced his decision on Wednesday, December 31, 2025, in Enugu, marking a significant political shift ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The former Anambra State governor said his move to the ADC is driven by a commitment to national renewal and political reform, stressing that the decision aligns with his long-standing vision for a better Nigeria.
“We are ending this year with hope that in 2026 we will begin a rescue journey,” Obi said during the announcement.
He also pledged a firm stance against electoral malpractice, vowing that the coalition would legally resist any attempt to manipulate the 2027 elections.
“We will resist election rigging by every lawful means in 2027,” he added.
Obi’s defection is widely seen as a major boost for the ADC and a defining moment in the ongoing realignment of Nigeria’s opposition politics ahead of the next election cycle.
