A tragic fire outbreak on Tuesday evening razed 10 clothing materials shops at Bolade Arena Market in Oshodi, Lagos. The Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service confirmed receiving a distress call around 5:50 p.m. and immediately deployed teams, who arrived at the scene within five minutes.

The agency’s Controller General, Mrs. Margaret Adeseye, stated that firefighting units from Bolade, Ilupeju, Ikeja, and Alausa stations were mobilised to swiftly contain the blaze. She explained that the fire affected five 40-foot container shops arranged in two rows, all stocked with bales of textile materials.

“The affected area is primarily used for the storage and sale of clothing materials. The fire has been confined to the impacted section and successfully brought under control. There is no risk of it spreading to other parts of the market,” Adeseye said.

She assured the public that adequate measures were taken to protect lives and nearby properties and confirmed that an investigation would be conducted to determine the fire’s cause.

“An investigation into the cause of the fire will be conducted in due course, and updates will be provided as necessary,” she added.
