2027: Rivers People Will Not Repeat Past Mistakes – Wike
The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has declared that the people of Rivers State will not repeat what he described as past political mistakes ahead of the 2027 general elections, indicating an early commencement of political mobilisation across the state.
Wike made the statement on Tuesday during a visit to Khana Local Government Area, where he disclosed that political activities in Rivers State would formally begin in January 2026. He cautioned residents to be mindful of their political choices, warning that decisions made without foresight often come with lasting consequences.
According to the former Rivers State governor, the electorate must reflect on previous outcomes before making future decisions, stressing that repeated mistakes could have severe repercussions for those involved.
Although he did not directly mention Governor Siminalayi Fubara, Wike’s remarks are widely seen as a reference to the ongoing political feud between both men. Fubara, who succeeded Wike as governor in 2023, has overseen a deeply polarised political environment in the state, marked by intense struggles over control of the political structure.
The lingering crisis later escalated into a constitutional confrontation that culminated in the declaration of a state of emergency and the suspension of the governor, further deepening political tensions in Rivers State.
