Residents panic as Renewed bandit attacks leaves scores abducted in Kogi

Residents of Yagba West Local Government Area, Kogi State, have raised alarms after several individuals were reportedly abducted along Omi-Odo Ara Road on Tuesday, December 30, 2025.

The exact number of victims and their identities remain unconfirmed, though security agencies have been promptly alerted. Authorities are urging residents of nearby communities to exercise extreme caution, limit unnecessary movement, and report any suspicious activities.

This incident follows a recent attack in Odo-Ere community, where heavily armed assailants carried out a coordinated raid on Sunday night. At least four residents were abducted, identified as Engr. Shina Ajere, Mr. Kehinde Afolabi, Damilola Ogun, and a woman known locally as Iya Lara. Eyewitnesses reported that the attackers moved from house to house, firing sporadically, creating panic across the area.

Another apartment reportedly sustained gunshot damage, though the assailants were unable to gain entry. Residents described the attacks as chaotic and terrifying, with gunfire echoing through the community.

Community members are calling on security agencies and the Kogi State Government to deploy additional personnel and intensify efforts to secure the release of those abducted. Odo-Ere and surrounding communities in Yagba West have experienced repeated attacks in recent months, heightening concerns over the vulnerability of rural areas in the state.

In a related case, a pastor from Living Faith Church Worldwide (Winners’ Chapel) was reportedly kidnapped on Saturday while visiting his farm in Okoro Gbedde, Ijumu Local Government Area. He was later released unharmed in Aiyetoro Gbedde after spending several days in captivity. Local sources indicate that no ransom was reportedly demanded in his case.

Authorities continue to investigate these incidents as the security situation in Kogi State’s rural communities remains a growing concern.
