Jubilation in Edo as Okpebholo pays 13th-Month Salary
Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has approved the payment of the 13th-month salary to civil and public servants across the state. The move has been widely praised by workers, who described it as timely, considerate, and a significant boost to morale.
Governor Okpebholo had initially announced the 13th-month salary initiative shortly after assuming office in November 2024. Staff at the Edo State Secretariat and various key ministries confirmed receiving the payment, expressing appreciation for the gesture that has brought visible joy to civil servants.
At the Ministry of Information and Strategy, the Director of Orientation, Mrs. Rose Imonikhe, called the payment a pleasant surprise, highlighting its impact in alleviating financial pressures during the festive season. She noted that the additional funds would help workers meet obligations such as school fees and rent as they enter the New Year.
Imonikhe also emphasized that the gesture reflects the governor’s commitment to the welfare of state workers and encouraged civil servants to respond with increased dedication, underlining the central role of the civil service in delivering democratic dividends.
Other ministry staff echoed similar sentiments. Employees at the Ministry of Lands and Housing, including Beatrice Ihulde, Precious Abu, Bridget Igbinovia, and Onyinyechi Florence, described the payment as evidence of a people-focused administration. At the Ministry of Environment and Sustainability, Director of Administration, Mrs. Egbe Jocy, expressed delight, noting that the initiative would enhance morale and productivity among civil servants.
