Mohammed Babangida, Accepted Tinubu’s Appointment, Presidency Dismisses Rejection Claims
The Presidency has confirmed that Mohammed Babangida, son of former military president General Ibrahim Babangida, has accepted his recent appointment by President Bola Tinubu. This clarification comes in response to a letter circulating online claiming that Mohammed had rejected the appointment.
In a statement issued on Sunday night by presidential spokesman Ajuri Ngelale, the Presidency described the letter as fake and misleading. Ngelale stated clearly that Mohammed Babangida had not declined the appointment and had, in fact, already begun engaging with relevant government officials regarding his new role.
The viral letter, which appeared to be signed by Mohammed, claimed he was turning down the appointment for personal reasons. However, the Presidency said no such letter was ever written or submitted by him.
President Tinubu had appointed Mohammed Babangida as a member of the newly reconstituted National Council on Privatization. The council is responsible for overseeing the federal government’s privatization and commercial reform efforts.
The fake rejection letter had sparked public discussion, given the high-profile nature of the appointment and Mohammed’s prominent family background. The Presidency urged Nigerians to disregard the letter and warned against the spread of false information aimed at creating confusion or undermining government appointments.
