Gunmen abduct six in Kaduna, release one victim
Six residents of Hayin Gizo, a quiet suburb in Garun Kurama, Lere Local Government Area of Kaduna State, were abducted in the early hours of Sunday by armed kidnappers.
The assailants reportedly invaded the area at about 1:30 a.m., heavily armed, and operated until around 3:00 a.m. in what residents described as a terrifying raid.
A source disclosed that six able-bodied men and one woman were initially taken, but the woman was later freed along the way due to her poor health condition.
Among those kidnapped are two Igbo traders who reside and conduct business within the community. The source called on security operatives and concerned citizens to take urgent action to secure the safe release of the victims.
He noted that the victims are mostly peasant farmers struggling to survive and urged the kidnappers to have mercy, as the families of those taken cannot afford to pay any ransom.
Lere Local Government Area, along with Kauru, Kachia, Zango Kataf, and Jema’a, has witnessed a rise in abductions and attacks by unidentified gunmen in recent months.
