Emir Sanusi II Tweaks Tradition, Holds Hawan Nasarawa in Motorcade After Horse Ride Ban
- Emir of Kano, Muhammad Sanusi II, has adjusted the traditional Hawan Nasarawa procession, opting for a motorcade instead of the customary horseback parade following a ban on Eid-el-Fitr durbar activities by the Kano State Police Command.
The annual ceremony, held on the third day of Shawwal, typically involves the Emir leading a grand horseback procession to the Government House to pay homage to the governor. However, citing security concerns, Commissioner of Police Ibrahim Bakori announced restrictions on such gatherings.
In response, Emir Sanusi II modified the tradition, leading his entourage in a motorcade to the Government House, where he was received by Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, ensuring the continuity of the historic event.
The altered procession also followed a different route, but enthusiastic supporters still lined the streets, celebrating the occasion despite the changes.
