PDP Demands Proof as APC Calls for Probe into Allegations Against Fubara

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers State have clashed over serious allegations leveled against suspended Governor Siminalayi Fubara by former Head of Service, Dr. George Nwaeke.
Nwaeke, who recently resigned from Fubara’s administration, accused the governor of orchestrating the 2023 bombing of the State House of Assembly complex to prevent impeachment by lawmakers loyal to Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike. He also claimed Fubara planned attacks on oil facilities in the Niger Delta to destabilize the federal government.
Additionally, Nwaeke alleged that Fubara was involved in secret meetings with opposition figures to support a Northern candidate, possibly Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed, for the 2027 presidential election.
The claims have triggered intense debate, with PDP dismissing them as politically motivated while APC insists on a thorough investigation.
PDP Challenges Nwaeke to Provide Evidence
PDP Publicity Secretary Sydney Gbara dismissed the allegations as an attempt to discredit Fubara. He questioned why Nwaeke remained in government if such incidents occurred, suggesting he was being used by Fubara’s political enemies.
“He should present proof. This is desperation at its peak. Nwaeke was in office when all these alleged events happened—why didn’t he resign earlier?” Gbara stated.
APC Demands Investigation into ‘Weighty Allegations’
Conversely, APC spokesperson Ikenga Chibike urged security agencies to investigate, stressing that Nwaeke, as a top government official, had access to sensitive information.
“These allegations are serious and should not be ignored. As a former Head of Service, Nwaeke was privy to government dealings, and his claims must be probed,” Chibike said.
The controversy further deepens the political crisis in Rivers State, as supporters of both Fubara and Wike continue to clash over the allegations.
