The Arewa Youth Consultative Forum (AYCF) has strongly condemned the killing of 16 Northern travelers in Uromi, Edo State, calling it an act of mob injustice that must not go unpunished.

In a statement issued by its National President, Yerima Shettima, the group described the incident as barbaric and unacceptable, urging authorities to ensure swift justice.

According to AYCF, the victims were intercepted on Thursday in Udune Efandion, Uromi, by members of the Edo State Security Corps and local vigilantes. The group alleged that an irate mob, fueled by false claims of kidnapping, carried out the brutal attack, setting the travelers’ vehicle on fire with some bodies trapped inside.

Eyewitnesses reportedly described a horrifying scene where victims were removed using wheelbarrows and thrown into the flames, highlighting the dangers of unchecked mob violence.

AYCF demanded a thorough investigation into the killings and called for the immediate arrest and prosecution of those responsible. The forum stressed that justice must be served to restore confidence in the legal system and prevent further lawlessness.

Shettima also acknowledged the anger and pain felt by the Hausa community in Uromi and beyond, urging them to remain calm and avoid retaliatory actions. He emphasized the need to seek justice through lawful means.

“We extend our heartfelt condolences to the families of the victims and urge the authorities to act swiftly in bringing the perpetrators to justice,” the statement read.

AYCF reaffirmed its commitment to supporting the affected community in their pursuit of justice and ensuring such incidents do not happen again.
